This new website represents how we think a fully functional and efficient e-commerce website should look and work. Unlike our previous site which was long on graphics but slow loading, our new site is a stripped down racer. We've done everything we can to make pages and images load fast, whether you are on a state-of-the-art computer with DSL or on an old dinosaur using dial-up. We've removed all extraneous content and graphics, and I think, we've succeeded in building a very "user friendly" , logical website that should work with whatever browser you may be using. I welcome your feedback with any questions, suggestions or problems you may have with our site. Keep in mind that we are working daily to update things such as shipping weights and adding images. This process will take several months to complete, so please accept our apologies for anything that's not quite finished. Also note that our site now shows "quantities" for the first time. This number is updated nitely and should be 100% accurate, about 80% of the time. We are striving to get all quantities accurate, again over the next month or two. If you see an item that is displaying as -0- on hand, we may actually have it. Don't hesitate to call or email us to confirm stock. Furthermore, most of our items are available in one or two days from our distributors. Special orders are never a problem. Remember- we're here to serve you! For the tech minded, I should add that this site, (along with earthshakingdj.com, vividaudio.net and a few others) is now served in-house on a T1 line and that, unlike our previous site, which was a true dynamic (database served) site, this new one combines all the advantages of a dynamic site (ease of maintenance, global updates) with the speed and stability of static pages. In a nutshell, our in-store POS system (POSIM, with its' own database) is polled every night for any changes to "web active items". The server extracts the changes and generates new html pages. All this takes place on a Mac Mini. These new pages are then FTP'd to our web server, sitting two shelves lower (um, gravity makes it load faster...), and the new pages are automatically made "live". The whole process take about 20 minutes or so, depending on how many new items have been added/updated that day. Cool, eh? We're so thrilled with the way this new-fangled thing works that we will, more than likely, offer our web interface to other POSIM users who would like to add massive web functionality to their existing POSIM POS system. (contact Dave or Ray for more info on this). How'd we do it, you ask? Two words- Ray Steers. Ray, thanks for doing a great job! |
