| The vibey squawker!
The midrange voice from the mini-humbuckers sounds to me like a cross between a Gibson Firebird and an old pawn-shop prize like a Harmony or a Kay or a Silvertone. I used to have one of those Chris Isaak Silvertones (the black one with the Gibson mini-humbuckers and the Bigsby) and this sounds better for lead playing or cutting rhythmit can get warm but it is best suiting for a punchy upper-mid presence. In short, plugged into a Hiwatt, this could do your garage rock/Pete Townsend-thing just fine. But wait: if you are in a band that does old Memphis Soul, this is the guitar. If your band has a retro-rock thing going onanything from Bowies Glam to Stones to CCRthen you will like the way this guitar sounds. Indie rockers will appreciate the Belvederes Radiohead/Oasis/Coldplay-approved chime and the fact that it is a hollowbody guitarseems to be all the rage these days. On that note, one of the cool things about this guitar is that it can make a Fender-voiced combo (Deluxe, Princeton, Twin) sound a little more brash; in short, it can make your Fender sound a little more boxy Vox-y with its upper midrange howl coming from the hollowbody and the cutting pickups. Of course, you can dial in your own tones whether you own a Plexi or a Crate. This guitar comes with an optional Bigsby for those Neil Young-style vibrato freakouts and its mother-of-toilet-seat pearloid/sparkely looks will certainly get you attention at the gig. It has a medium neck (not too fast, not too baseball bat) and smooth, reliable hardware. So pass up that obligatory Epiphone Dot or your grandpas ES-330 and try something different. It is a helluva lot cheaper than Gibson overpriced firewood and has a lot more VIBE. Besides, are you gonna take your $2,500.00 Gibby to a dive bar?
